He married Sarah Ann Foulks on 24 November 1819, in St. Clair, Illinois, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 1 February 1850, at the age of 53, and was buried in St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri, United States.
