James Lloyd Igleheart was born on 11 May 1861, in Daviess, Kentucky, United States as the son of John Inglehart and Ruth A Sheckels. He married Alice Ann Tignor on 27 December 1883, in Spencer, Indiana, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 1 daughter. He lived in Magisterial District 1, Daviess, Kentucky, United States in 1900. He died on 25 January 1933, in Evansville, Knight Township, Vanderburgh, Indiana, United States, at the age of 71, and was buried in Locust Hill Cemetery, Evansville, Knight Township, Vanderburgh, Indiana, United States.

On October 8, 1862, the Battle of Perryville took place between the Army of Ohio and the Army of Mississippi. It was the bloodiest battle on Kentucky soil. The Union lost around four thousand people and the Confederates lost around three thousand people. This was about one fifth of those that fought.

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.
