Metta Maria Hansdatter was born about 1685, in Midtjylland, Denmark as the daughter of Hans Jan Sorensen and Mrs Hans Sorensen. She married Jon Hjaltalin Oddsson about 1716, in Iceland. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 5 daughters. She died on 14 November 1757, in Reykjavík, Capital Region, Iceland, at the age of 73.

The Royal Danish Military Academy educated and commissioned all officers for the Royal Danish Army. The Military Academy function was initiated in 1713 by request of King Frederick IV on inspiration from the Naval Academy.
