When Jacob Woodman was born in 1766, in New Hampshire, British Colonial America, his father, Archelaus Woodman, was 29 and his mother, Sarah Joy, was 26. He married Mary Chesley on 25 October 1789, in Durham, Strafford, New Hampshire, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 2 daughters. He immigrated to Massachusetts, United States in 1834 and lived in Durham, Strafford, New Hampshire, United States in 1790. He registered for military service in 1812.

The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
