When Andrew Helps was born on 19 October 1828, his father, John Helps, was 35 and his mother, Christina McCuaig, was 36. He married Janet Snider about 1854. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Lancaster Township, Stormont Dundas and Glengarry, Ontario, Canada in 1861 and Lancaster, South Glengarry Township, Stormont Dundas and Glengarry, Ontario, Canada in 1871. He died in 1898, at the age of 70, and was buried in South Lancaster, South Glengarry Township, Stormont Dundas and Glengarry, Ontario, Canada.

1883 · Mining Boom

In 1883, there was a mining boom in Northern Ontario when mineral deposits were found near Sudbury. Thomas Flanagan was the blacksmith for the Canadian Pacific Railway that noticed the deposits in the river.
