When Peter Reber was born on 12 July 1778, in Schangnau, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Ulrich Reber, was 25 and his mother, Anna Egli, was 24. He married Barbara Bühlmann in 1812. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 1 daughter. He died on 29 August 1850, at the age of 72.
