He married Lydia Baker on 5 December 1848, in Home Township, Algoma, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Whitchurch, York, Ontario, Canada for about 25 years. He died on 31 August 1896, at the age of 72, and was buried in Heise Hill Cemetery, Gormley, York, Ontario, Canada.

1883 · Mining Boom

In 1883, there was a mining boom in Northern Ontario when mineral deposits were found near Sudbury. Thomas Flanagan was the blacksmith for the Canadian Pacific Railway that noticed the deposits in the river.
