When William Henry Tally was born on 26 October 1829, in Tennessee, United States, his father, Patrick Henry Talley, was 19 and his mother, Martha Ann Bagley, was 21. He married Mary Beauford Hart on 6 September 1868, in Marshall, Tennessee, United States. He lived in Meramec Township, Phelps, Missouri, United States in 1870 and Sherman, Grayson, Texas, United States in 1880. He died on 27 August 1895, in California, United States, at the age of 65, and was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Glendora, Los Angeles, California, United States.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

1848 · The California Gold Rush

On January 24, 1848, gold was found at Sutter’s Mill in Coloma, California, which began the California gold rush. In December of that same year, U.S. President James Polk announced the news to Congress. The news of gold lured thousands of “forty-niners” seeking fortune to California during 1849. Approximately 300,000 people relocated to California from all over the world during the gold rush years. It is estimated that the mined gold was worth tens of billions in today’s U.S. dollars.
