When Nathan Thayer was born on 23 May 1804, in Fairfield, Franklin, Vermont, United States, his father, Stephen Thayer, was 38 and his mother, Anna Twitchell, was 34. He married Dorcus Belknap on 3 February 1826. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 10 September 1862, in Pendleton, Niagara, New York, United States, at the age of 58.
