When James Hall Pattillo was born on 3 March 1821, in Bluff, Fayette, Texas, United States, his father, George Alexander Pattillo, was 25 and his mother, Sarah Ann Allen, was 19. He married Hester Ann Frances Harmon on 20 July 1842, in Jefferson, Texas, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Jefferson City, Jefferson, Tennessee, United States in 1850 and Justice Precinct 1, Orange, Texas, United States in 1860. He registered for military service in 1862. He died on 6 January 1867, at the age of 45.

1825 · The Crimes Act

The Crimes Act was made to provide a clearer punishment of certain crimes against the United States. Part of it includes: Changing the maximum sentence of imprisonment to be increased from seven to ten years and changing the maximum fine from $5,000 to $10,000.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

1835 · The Hermitage is Built

The Hermitage located in Nashville, Tennessee was a plantation owned by President Andrew Jackson from 1804 until his death there in 1845. The Hermitage is now a museum.

Name Meaning

Scottish: habitational name from either of two places, in the former counties of Fife and Perthshire, called Pittilloch, from Pictish peit ‘portion (of land)’ + Gaelic tulach ‘hill’ and with loss of final -ch in the modern forms of the surname.
