He married Esther Meintzer on 2 February 1814, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 6 daughters. He died on 17 August 1870, in Knox Township, Clarke, Iowa, United States, at the age of 84, and was buried in Clarke, Iowa, United States.
