When Sibbel Powell was born on 31 July 1747, in Oyster Bay, Queens, New York, United States, her father, Issac Powell, was 36 and her mother, Martha Whitman, was 35. She married Jonas Powell in 1778, in Long Island, New York, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 daughters. She died on 9 April 1785, at the age of 37.

1781 · The First Constitution

Serving the newly created United States of America as the first constitution, the Articles of Confederation were an agreement among the 13 original states preserving the independence and sovereignty of the states. But with a limited central government, the Constitutional Convention came together to replace the Articles of Confederation with a more established Constitution and central government on where the states can be represented and voice their concerns and comments to build up the nation.

Name Meaning

Welsh: Anglicized form of Welsh ap Hywel ‘son of Hywel’, a personal name meaning ‘eminent’ (see Howell ).

Irish: mainly of Welsh origin as in 1 above, but sometimes a surname adopted as equivalent of Gaelic Mac Giolla Phóil ‘son of the servant of Saint Paul’ (see Guilfoyle ).

English: variant of Paul or Poole .
