When Carrie Alzina Brink was born on 11 January 1878, in Iowa, United States, her father, Alfred L Brink, was 44 and her mother, Almira Bacon, was 40. She married William Austin Hawkins on 2 December 1919, in Vancouver, Clark, Washington, United States. She lived in Lodomillo Township, Clayton, Iowa, United States in 1880 and Early, Sac, Iowa, United States in 1910. She died on 13 January 1964, in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, United States, at the age of 86.

1880 · The Great Gale of 1880

The Great Gale of 1880 was a severe snow and wind storm that devastated parts of Oregon and Washington on January 9, 1880. The extratropical cyclone caused tides to rise seven feet, gale force winds, and snow accumulations of up to 18 inches.  

1881 · The Assassination of James Garfield

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.

1901 · Assassination of Mckinley

President William McKinley was shot at the Temple of Music, in the Pan-American Exposition, while shaking hands with the public. Leon Czolgosz shot him twice in the abdomen because he thought it was his duty to do so. McKinley died after eight days of watch and care. He was the third American president to be assassinated. After his death, Congress passed legislation to officially make the Secret Service and gave them responsibility for protecting the President at all times.
