When Jonas Johansen was born on 21 June 1858, in Slagelse, Sorø, Denmark, his father, Johannes J. Johansen, was 37 and his mother, Ane Kirstine Johansdatter, was 27. He married Josephine Vilhelmine Sophie Nielsen on 27 April 1882, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He lived in Sankt Peders, Slagelse, Sorø, Denmark in 1860 and Slagelse, Sankt Peders, Slagelse, Sorø, Denmark in 1870. He died on 9 June 1932, in Ogden, Weber, Utah, United States, at the age of 73.

1859 · Copenhagen Waterworks

The Copenhagen Waterworks was the first waterworks in Denmark and served the community until 1951. It was one of the first buildings to be built outside Copenhagen's old city walls.

Abraham Lincoln issues Emancipation Proclamation, declaring slaves in Confederate states to be free.

1881 · The Assassination of James Garfield

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.
