When Moses Montgomery was born on 1 May 1804, in Fayette, Kentucky, United States, his father, Thomas Montgomery Jr., was 27 and his mother, Elizabeth "Betsy" Warrick, was 28. He married Elizabeth Jones on 22 May 1825, in Gibson, Indiana, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Lancaster Township, Wells, Indiana, United States in 1840. He died in 1846, in La Porte, LaPorte, Indiana, United States, at the age of 42.

Atlantic slave trade abolished.

1812 · Kentucky Bend Created

During the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812, the Kentucky Bend or New Madrid Bend was created. It is located in the southwestern corner of Kentucky on the banks of the Mississippi River.

1818 · Jackson Purchase

The western part of Kentucky purchased by Andrew Jackson from the Chickasaw Indians in 1818. It became known as the Jackson Purchase. This included land that wasn't originally part of Kentucky when it became a state.

Name Meaning

English, Scottish, and northern Irish (of Norman origin): habitational name from Sainte-Foy-de-Montgomery and Saint-Germain-de-Montgomery (Calvados). In Ireland this surname was present in the medieval period, died out, and was then reintroduced from Scotland in the 17th century. It has been Gaelicized in Ireland as Mac Iomaire and in Scotland as Mac Gumaraid.
