During the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812, the Kentucky Bend or New Madrid Bend was created. It is located in the southwestern corner of Kentucky on the banks of the Mississippi River.
The western part of Kentucky purchased by Andrew Jackson from the Chickasaw Indians in 1818. It became known as the Jackson Purchase. This included land that wasn't originally part of Kentucky when it became a state.
English, Scottish, and northern Irish (of Norman origin): habitational name from Sainte-Foy-de-Montgomery and Saint-Germain-de-Montgomery (Calvados). In Ireland this surname was present in the medieval period, died out, and was then reintroduced from Scotland in the 17th century.
