When Maria Balsiger was born on 28 October 1818, in Switzerland, her father, Christian Balsiger, was 27 and her mother, Magdalena Schmid, was 25. She married Samuel Riesen on 22 March 1850, in Thun, Thun, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. She died on 28 January 1851, at the age of 32.
