When Mercy Bradley was born on 14 August 1765, in New Milford, Litchfield, Connecticut, United States, her father, Solomon Hotchkiss Sr., was 22 and her mother, Lois Wooster, was 22. She married David Hotchkiss on 27 February 1788, in Cheshire, New Haven, Connecticut, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters. She died on 20 January 1854, in Paugasset, New Haven, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America, at the age of 88, and was buried in Oak Cliff Cemetery, Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, United States.

The capture of Fort Griswold was the final act of treason that Benedict Arnold committed. This would be a British victory. On the American side 85 were killed, 35 wounded and paroled, 28 taken prisoner, 13 escaped, and 1 twelve year old was captured and released.
