He lived in Stormont Dundas and Glengarry, Ontario, Canada for about 30 years and Mountain Township, Stormont Dundas and Glengarry, Ontario, Canada in 1931. He died on 21 July 1961, in New Johnstown, Stormont, Upper Canada, British North America, at the age of 80, and was buried in Brinston, South Dundas, Stormont Dundas and Glengarry, Ontario, Canada.

In 1883, there was a mining boom in Northern Ontario when mineral deposits were found near Sudbury. Thomas Flanagan was the blacksmith for the Canadian Pacific Railway that noticed the deposits in the river.
