Nelson, was 27. He married Mary Edith Masters on 8 January 1910, in Confluence, Somerset, Pennsylvania, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 1 daughter. He lived in Barnesboro, Susquehanna Township, Cambria, Pennsylvania, United States in 1900. He died on 9 July 1952, in Westmont, Cambria, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 70, and was buried in Grandview Cemetery, Southmont, Cambria, Pennsylvania, United States.

Angel Island served as a quarantine station for those diagnosed with bubonic plague beginning in 1891. A quarantine station was built on the island which was funded by the federal government at the cost of $98,000. The disease spread to port cities around the world, including the San Francisco Bay Area, during the third bubonic plague pandemic, which lasted through 1909.
President William McKinley was shot at the Temple of Music, in the Pan-American Exposition, while shaking hands with the public. Leon Czolgosz shot him twice in the abdomen because he thought it was his duty to do so. McKinley died after eight days of watch and care. He was the third American president to be assassinated. After his death, Congress passed legislation to officially make the Secret Service and gave them responsibility for protecting the President at all times.
