Thomas Goodwin was born on 5 October 1732, in Wells, York, Maine, United States as the son of Thomas Goodwin and Hannah Wells. He married Susannah Downing on 24 September 1753, in Wells, York, Maine, United States. They were the parents of at least 10 sons and 7 daughters. He died in May 1799, in his hometown, at the age of 66, and was buried in Poultney, Rutland, Vermont, United States.

1786 · Shays' Rebellion

Caused by war veteran Daniel Shays, Shays' Rebellion was to protest economic and civil rights injustices that he and other farmers were seeing after the Revolutionary War. Because of the Rebellion it opened the eyes of the governing officials that the Articles of Confederation needed a reform. The Rebellion served as a guardrail when helping reform the United States Constitution.
