He married Maria Salomea Buegler on 26 November 1801, in Ermatingen, Thurgau, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 8 April 1839, at the age of 64, and was buried in Ermatingen, Thurgau, Switzerland.
