Briscoe in Saint John Beckermet is named with Old Norse Bretaskógr ‘wood of the Britons’ (see Brett ). Brisco in Cumberland and Briscoe in North Yorkshire are named with Old Norse birki ‘birch’ + skógr ‘wood’.
