When Peter H. Viele was born on 12 January 1745, in Schenectady, Albany, New York Colony, British Colonial America, his father, Hugus Viele, was 39 and his mother, Catharina Van Woert, was 40. He married Elizabeth Louw. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 5 daughters. He registered for military service in 1774. He died on 8 July 1819, in Rensselaer, New York, United States, at the age of 74, and was buried in Island Hill Cemetery, Buskirk, Hoosick, Rensselaer, New York, United States.

Caused by war veteran Daniel Shays, Shays' Rebellion was to protest economic and civil rights injustices that he and other farmers were seeing after the Revolutionary War. Because of the Rebellion it opened the eyes of the governing officials that the Articles of Confederation needed a reform. The Rebellion served as a guardrail when helping reform the United States Constitution.
