When Johann Freidrich Brandes was born on 5 July 1744, in Dardesheim, Kreis Halberstadt, Province of Saxony, Prussia, his father, Johan Heinrich Brandes, was 41 and his mother, Anna Catharina Wittekopp, was 32. He married Anna Katharina Brauckmann on 7 November 1775. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. He died on 21 May 1827, at the age of 82, and was buried in Dardesheim, Kreis Halberstadt, Province of Saxony, Prussia.
