1864 · St. Albans Raid

Age 14

St. Albans Raid took place on October 19, 1864. It was a Confederate raid from Canada into Union territory. Confederate soldiers that were in Canada raided the town of St. Albans killed one person and robbed three banks.

1881 · The Assassination of James Garfield

Age 31

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.

Altered form of English Barnham: habitational name from any of the places called Barnham in Suffolk and West Sussex, or Barnham Broom in Norfolk, all of which were named with the male personal name Beorn or Beorna + Old English hām ‘homestead’.
