1797 · Albany is Named Capital of New York

Albany became the capital of New York in 1797. Albany is the oldest continuous settlement of the original 13 colonies.

1798 · Mississippi is Organized as an American Territory

The �Mississippi territory existed from April 7, 1798, to December 10, 1817, when the western half became the state of Mississippi and the eastern half became Alabama Territory. The territory was given up by Spain through the Treaty of Madrid.

1800 · Movement to Washington D.C.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.

German: variant of Hardt 1 and 2. It is also found in France (Alsace and Lorraine).

Jewish (Ashkenazic): artificial name or nickname from German and Yiddish hart ‘hard’.
