When Johannes Åkesson was born on 2 September 1824, in Ellinge, Västra Sallerup, Harjager, Malmöhus, Sweden, his father, Åke Jonsson, was 28 and his mother, Anna Thornberg, was 22. He married Boel Andersdotter on 3 November 1846. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 15 March 1908, in Helsingborg, Malmöhus, Sweden, at the age of 83.

Americanized form of Swedish Åkesson or Åkeson (see Akeson ).
Swedish (Åkerson): ornamental name composed of the elements åker ‘field’ + son ‘son’. This is one of a small group of Swedish names ending in -son that are not patronymics; it is very rare in Sweden. Compare Ackerson 1 and Okerson .
