History: The Alligoods trace their origin to Thomas Alligood (also Elligood), who lived in the middle of the 17th century in Northampton County, VA. He was presumably the son of Elias Le Gard (in some sources his surname is misspelled Legarde), a Frenchman, believed by some to be a Huguenot, who arrived in James City, VA, in 1621.
