When Nathan Gilmore Lackey was born on 28 September 1791, in Rockingham, Barbados, his father, James Lackey, was 32 and his mother, Isabella Gilmore, was 27. He married Jane Anderson on 22 January 1819, in Rockbridge, Virginia, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 1 December 1846, in Botetourt, Virginia, United States, at the age of 55, and was buried in Natural Bridge, Rockbridge, Virginia, United States.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
