He married Polly Dunlap on 26 December 1808, in Stokes, Pitt, North Carolina, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 1 daughter. He died on 20 December 1858, in Breathitt, Kentucky, United States, at the age of 80.

1781 · The First Constitution

Serving the newly created United States of America as the first constitution, the Articles of Confederation were an agreement among the 13 original states preserving the independence and sovereignty of the states. But with a limited central government, the Constitutional Convention came together to replace the Articles of Confederation with a more established Constitution and central government on where the states can be represented and voice their concerns and comments to build up the nation.

1789 · Becomes 12th State

On November 21, 1789, North Carolina became the 12th state in the Union.

1799 · Gold Nuggets Found

In 1799, in Little Meadow Creak located in Cabarrus County, North Carolina a large yellow ""rock"" was found by Conrad Reed. A few years later it was determined that the ""rock"" was a gold nugget.
