When John McAfee Green was born on 12 October 1828, in Gainesville, Hall, Georgia, United States, his father, Thomas Perry Green, was 22 and his mother, Mary Eliza Jackson, was 20. He married Elizabeth W Marlow on 31 March 1850, in Hall, Georgia, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in Franklin Township, Grant, Arkansas, United States in 1870 and Hurricane, Saline, Arkansas, United States in 1880. He died on 28 December 1902, in Hot Springs, Garland, Arkansas, United States, at the age of 74, and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Hot Springs, Garland, Arkansas, United States.

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.
