1851 · Constitution of 1851

Due to the state’s financial crisis during the previous decade and growing criticism toward state government. Voters approve the Constitution of 1851 which forbade the state government from going into debt.

Bleeding Kansas was a time period between the years 1854 and 1861 with a series of violent confrontations over whether slavery would be legal in Kansas Territory.
