When George Meikele Unsworth was born on 16 October 1894, in Calumet, Houghton, Michigan, United States, his father, George Unsworth, was 36 and his mother, Catharine Meikele, was 33. He married Mable Florina Stucky on 28 May 1927, in Marquette, Marquette, Michigan, United States. He died on 7 November 1970, in his hometown, at the age of 76, and was buried in Lake View Cemetery, Calumet, Houghton, Michigan, United States.

1896 · Plessy vs. Ferguson
A landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the constitutionality of racial segregation laws for public facilities if the segregated facilities were equal in quality. It's widely regarded as one of the worst decisions in U.S. Supreme Court history.
1903 · Ford Motor Company
Henry Ford built his first gasoline-powered vehicle, named the Quadricycle, in 1896, at his home in Detroit. Ford sold the Quadricycle for $200 and used the money to build a second car. In 1901, Ford raced his car "Sweepstakes" against Alexander Winton and won. The victory resulted in publicity for Ford which allowed him to gain investors for his new company, Ford Motor Company. The first Model A was sold on July 23, 1903, and the company was incorporated on November 13, 1903.
1916 · The First woman elected into the US Congress
Jeannette Pickering Rankin became the first woman to hold a federal office position in the House of Representatives, and remains the only woman elected to Congress by Montana.

English (Lancashire): habitational name from Unsworth (Lancashire), recorded as Hundeswrth in 1291. This name was easily confused with Hunsworth in Yorkshire, since they shared the same etymology, ‘Hund's enclosure or settlement’ (from the Old English personal name Hund ‘dog’ + Old English worth ‘enclosure’).
