He married Sarah Frances Ogle on 18 October 1863, in Carroll, Arkansas, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Justice Precinct 2, Hill, Texas, United States in 1880 and Justice Precinct 1, Jones, Texas, United States in 1900. He registered for military service in 1863. He died on 16 April 1928, in Anson, Jones, Texas, United States, at the age of 85, and was buried in Funston, Jones, Texas, United States.

1844 · German Immigration to Texas

Over 7,000 German immigrants arrived in Texas. Some of these new arrivals died in epidemics; those that survived ended up living in cities such as San Antonio, Galveston, and Houston. Other German settlers went to the Texas Hill Country and formed the western portion of the German Belt, where new towns were founded: New Braunfels and Fredericksburg.

Tennessee was known as the Volunteer State because during the Mexican War the government asked Tennessee for 3,000 volunteer soldiers and 30,000 joined.

Abraham Lincoln is assassinated by John Wilkes Booth.

Name Meaning

Probably an altered form of German Ehoff, a status namefor the tenant of an unfree feudal holding, from Middle High Germanē ‘law’ + hof ‘farmstead, manor farm’.
