    1956 · The Federal Aid Highway Act

    Age 1

    With the construction of 41,000 miles of the Interstate Highway System, the Federal Aid Highway Act made way for the largest public works project in American history at that time. One of the purposes was to provide military access to places in case of an attack.

    1961 · Seattle Space Needle is Built

    Age 6

    Construction on the Seattle Space Needle was constructed on April 17, 1961, and was opened on April 21, 1962. It was built for the World’s Fair in 1962. The space needle is an observation tower that is iconic to Seattle and a landmark of the Pacific Northwest. It was meant to only be lite for 75 nights per year or less to reduce light pollution. On September 11, 2001 the lights of the space were left on for 11 days straight.

    "Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin E. Aldrin landed on the lunar surface while Michael Collins orbited overhead in the Apollo command module. After checkout, Armstrong set foot on the surface, telling the millions of listeners that it was ""one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind""."
