1838 · Natura Artis Magistra (Zoo)

The Natura Artis Magistra, also known as Artis, is the oldest Zoo in the Netherlands and among the oldest zoos in all of Europe. It is located in the center of Amsterdam. Gerard Westerman, J.W.H. Werlemann and J.J. Wijsmuller founded the Zoo in 1838, where it was initially open only to members. The zoo would become public in 1851. In addition to the typical Zoo fare, Artis also contains an aquarium, planetarium, arboretum, and a sizeable collection of art.

1841 · Moses and Aaron Church is Consecrated

"After approximately four years of construction, the ""Mozes en Aäronkerk"", or Moses and Aaron Church, was consecrated."

1852 · Bijbels Museum

The Bijbels (Biblical) Museum was founded in Amsterdam during 1852. Reverend Leendert Scouten laid the foundations for the museum with a scale model of the tabernacle. The museum is now home to rare exhibits, including the oldest printed Bible found in the Netherlands (from 1477).
