When Lars Hansen was born on 7 February 1834, in Idd, Smaalenenes, Norway, his father, Hans Peder Larsen, was 20 and his mother, Bertie Anderson, was 30. He married Maren Johanne Olsdatter on 1 June 1856, in Halden, Østfold, Norway. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 5 March 1917, at the age of 83.
