Name Meaning

English (Middlesex and Sussex): possibly a variant of Halston, which is partly a habitational name from Halston (Shropshire), perhaps named with an Old English personal name Ealh + tūn ‘farmstead, estate’, and partly derived from the Middle English personal name Halstein. Alternatively, Holston may be a habitational name from Holstone in Durham (from Old English hol ‘hole, hollow’ + stān ‘stone’) or from a lost or unidentified place so called.

Probably an Americanized form of German Holsten .
