When Niels Jensen was born in 1798, his father, Jens Nielsen, was 45 and his mother, Margrethe Karen Hansdatter, was 41. He married Maren Pedersdatter on 16 March 1828. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 1 daughter. He lived in Hårby, Båg, Odense, Denmark for about 16 years. He died on 4 December 1877, at the age of 79.
