    Name Meaning

    19th‐century revival of an Old English female name, a contracted form of Eadburga, composed of ēad ‘prosperity’ + burg ‘fortress’. St Ebba the Elder ( d. 638 ) was the sister of Oswald , King of Northumbria, who founded a Benedictine abbey at Coldingham in Berwickshire; St Ebba the Younger ( d. c.870 ) was abbess there and was murdered by marauding Danes .
