Brief Life History of George

Deacon; he was chosen, probably in 1725, Deacon; he was chosen, probably in 1725, and served for twenty years. Becoming disaffected in the difficulties in the church, which attended the call of Rev. John Richards, the second pastor, he declared for the Church of England, and was one of the founders of St. John's Church, acting as lay reader there. The influence of Rev. Dr. Samuel Johnson, his brother-in- law, may have led him to take this step. He was one of the first settlers of North Guilford and in 1728, his father gave him ten acres on on the West River, where he built his new house and barn.
