When Nils Tollesen was christened on 3 August 1794, in Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway, his father, Tollev Nilsen, was 41 and his mother, Sigrid Engebretsdatter, was 43. He married Kari Pedersen on 12 December 1828. They were the parents of at least 2 sons. He died in 1858, in Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway, at the age of 64.

1801 · 1801 Norwegian Census

It listed all family members living on each farm. Also those living in the cities.
1810 · Vaccinations

Royal order issued by the King of Norway and Denmark in 1810 required everyone to have a certificate of smallpox vaccination. This was also recorded in the Church records. 33
1812 · Record-keeping

A uniform system for keeping church records was introduced by royal ordinance in December 1812. Prior to that there were no directions on how to keep church records. It required that a duplicate register be kept in a separate place.

Name Meaning

Norwegian: from a patronymic from Tollef, a variant of Torleiv, from Old Norse þorleifr, formed with þórr, name of the Scandinavian god of thunder ( see Thor ) + leifr ‘heir’, ‘descendant’.
