When Hans Baumann was born on 15 November 1744, in Reitnau, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Hans Baumann, was 35 and his mother, Verena Lehmann, was 28. He married Ursula Kunz on 15 May 1767. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 5 daughters. He died on 19 June 1814, in his hometown, at the age of 69.
