He married Brita Andersdotter on 16 June 1723. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 8 daughters. He died on 3 May 1765, in his hometown, at the age of 72, and was buried in Norberg, Västmanland, Sweden.

The Great Northern War from 1700 through 1721 resulted in the loss of land amassed by Sweden in areas such as Germany, Norway, and Denmark. Nearly 200,000 Swedes lost their lives due to the war while Sweden lost much of its dominance in the Baltic Region.
