He married Catharina Koponen on 4 January 1795, in Maaninka, Kuopio, Finland. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 10 February 1809, in his hometown, at the age of 47, and was buried in Kuopion maalaiskunta, Kuopio, Finland.
