Sosaia Tupou was born about 1871, in Ofu, Vava'u, Tonga as the son of 'Epalahame Fakatoufifita Tu'ilakepa. He married Lesieli in 1902, in Neiafu, Vava'u, Tonga. He died in his hometown, and was buried in Ofu, Vava'u, Tonga.
