Name Meaning

English (Durham and Northumberland): of uncertain origin. Reaney suggests that it may be a habitational name from Wincheap Street in Canterbury (Kent), but this origin is not supported by the present-day distribution of the surname, which is heavily concentrated in northeastern England.
