When Eric Andersson was born on 3 September 1692, in Skinnskatteberg, Västmanland, Sweden, his father, Anders Ersson, was 27 and his mother, Kerstin Knutsdotter, was 21. He married Elisabet Nilsdotter on 11 October 1714. They were the parents of at least 2 sons. He died on 31 January 1722, in his hometown, at the age of 29.

By 1658, Sweden had become a great power in northern Europe. The Great Northern War from 1700 through 1721 resulted in the loss of land amassed by Sweden in areas such as Germany, Norway, and Denmark. Nearly 200,000 Swedes lost their lives due to the war while Sweden lost much of its dominance in the Baltic Region.
