When William Horne was born on 13 November 1833, in Middle River, Victoria, Nova Scotia, Canada, his father, Thomas Maccullough McDolt Horne, was 25 and his mother, Jannett Jessie Dunbar, was 29. He married Sophia Mac Donald on 28 December 1852, in Pictou, Nova Scotia, British North America. They were the parents of at least 11 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Sydney 28A, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1881 and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada for about 10 years. He died on 12 March 1916, in Alma, Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada, at the age of 82, and was buried in Alma Cemetery, Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada.
