Jan Jacobs was born in 1756, in Walle, Celle, Hanover, Prussia, Germany as the son of Jacob Rohlfs. He married Margarethe Tjarks on 3 April 1783, in Westerende Kirchloog, Aurich, Hanover, Prussia, Germany. They were the parents of at least 3 sons. He died from 1790 to 1797.
